When you look into the future of jobs in the US, the picture is bleak. Many factors impact this outlook; some being health care costs, labor costs, and availability of cheaper well educated labor pools in other countries. With the advent of the computer comes the possibility of using labor in countries where the cost of living is such that labor costs can be cut by two thirds. Many jobs will go to India or the Philippines where there is a growth of well educated English speaking people.
As people are faced with the reality of shrinking incomes and disappearing jobs, it will be important to have an entrepreneurial spirit that looks within yourself to find something that you can develop to offer to others that they will find of value. As the job market shrinks it will happen that more and more people find themselves working two or three jobs. Companies will have more interest in part time workers than full time workers.
The positive side of part time employment or project based employment is that it will level the playing field for older workers. The health care costs of older workers is much higher than younger workers, but as more and more people are hired for part time work, health care is not a factor as companies aren't required to offer health care for part time workers. Companies will find that they can hire the experience and loyalty at a very affordable price.
Many changes are coming and the wise person will seek out the indicators and determine how to meet the new environment as it arrives.
